The gallery displays nine works by eight artists which, together with some fifty seals, offer an insight into what this traditional artistic ideal looked like – and how it lives on today.
Bada Shanren, Xu Wei, Shi Tao, Mei Qing, Yun Shouping, Qi Baishi, Zeng Mi and Jiang Qigu are artists who worked within this tradition. Through works by these Chinese artists, we encounter this tradition across different periods and in a range of expressions. Here, brush and ink, knife and stone, word and image, writing and thought come together.
The Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities holds a significant collection of Chinese ink paintings and works on paper. The art in this room is part of a long and living tradition that continues to shape art in China today.
